Oleg Bryjak

Oleg Bryjak ( Russian Олег Брыжак / Oleg Bryschak; born on October 27, 1960 in Dscheskasgan , Kazakh SSR , USSR ; died on March 24, 2015 in Prads-Haute-Bléone , Alpes-de-Haute-Provence , France ) was a Kazakh- German opera singer ( bass baritone ).

Life

Oleg Bryjak graduated from the Karaganda Music School and studied at the Kazakh National Conservatory . After appearing at the Lviv Opera , the Chelyabinsk Opera House and the Mariinsky Theater , he made his debut at the Badisches Staatstheater Karlsruhe in 1991 . Since 1996 he has been a permanent member of the ensemble of the Deutsche Oper am Rhein and can be heard here as Leporello , Amonasro , Falstaff , Rigoletto and in many other roles. One of his star roles was Alberich from Wagner's Der Ring des Nibelungen , with which he made his debut at the Vienna State Opera in 1998 .

Bryjak could be seen and heard in Stuttgart and also made guest appearances in Paris, Zurich, at the Berlin State Opera and at the Deutsche Oper Berlin . In Tokyo he was also seen as Alberich with the Berlin State Opera under the conductor Daniel Barenboim . From 1998 he was a permanent guest of the Vienna State Opera . Alberich became one of Bryjak's star roles; he gave it from 2003 to 2005 at the Lyric Opera of Chicago , 2004 in London at the Royal Albert Hall and in Baden-Baden under the direction of Simon Rattle as a TV / radio broadcast. From 2005 to 2006 he gave the Klingsor under the baton of Ingo Metzmacher in Amsterdam. His last engagements were in Barcelona and at the Karlsruhe State Theater. He has performed as a concert singer in Nuremberg, Madrid and at the Stravinsky Festival in Turin. In the summer of 2014 he sang the Alberich at the Bayreuth Festival , and in the summer of 2015 he was supposed to be the Alberich here as well.

Bryjak died on March 24, 2015 at the age of 54 with his colleague Maria Radner and her husband and child in the crash of Germanwings flight 9525 .
