Oliver Som

Oliver Som (real name: Oliver Epsom ) is a British musician , songwriter and record producer who works in Berlin and London . He became known in the 2010s through author participations and productions for James Blunt , Newton Faulkner , Madeline Juno , Louane , Marie-Mai and Robbie Williams .

Career

As an artist

On August 8, 2014 Som released together with Josh Beech - as part of the Beech duo - a rock album called Letters Written in the Sky . This album contains the song Lovers , which had already appeared a year earlier on September 27, 2013 on the soundtrack to Til Schweiger's Keinohrhase und Zweiohrküken .

As a writer and producer

The first production participations that appeared from Som were the two tracks Just for Always and Single Tear for British singer Tyler James. On James' album A Place I Go , which was released on October 29, 2012 via Island Records , Som participated in the two titles as a programmer, sound engineer and sound engineer. On September 27, 2013, Crystalized (Martina Topley-Bird feat. Mark Lanegan & Warpaint ) was his first official author participation as a promo single . The album reached the official album charts in Germany , Austria and Switzerland . At the end of 2015 he was responsible for the composition of Nos Secrets on the album Chambre 12 (Reissue) by the French pop singer Louane . Nos Secrets was released on September 7, 2019 as a single for single download, Som thus reached the official single charts for the first time. The single reached number six in Belgium (Wallonia) and number 43 in France.

At the beginning of 2016 Som started working with the German singer-songwriter Madeline Juno . For their second studio album Salvation , he participated in three author participations and productions with Quick Sand , Restless and Youth . Like This is our time , the album was able to be placed in all DA-CH countries at the same time . In the same year Som produced and wrote all the titles for Juno's Waldbrand EP together with Juno . On September 8, 2017, Juno's third studio album, DNA, was released. Som was responsible for the production, and he also co-wrote twelve of the 16 tracks. Two years later, Juno released her fourth studio album, What Remains . Som was also responsible for the entire production and wrote, with one exception, as the title. In addition to composing, producing and writing the lyrics, Som is often involved in the instrumentation and programming of the tracks.

In 2016 Som also contributed as a writer and producer for the Finnish singer-songwriter Niila . He participated in a total of eight pieces here. In 2016, Astronaut, an author participation on Christina Stürmer's studio album Side by Side, was also released . In 2017 he wrote More Than Friends for the French musician Mat Bastard. Due to the high number of downloads, the song reached the French single charts (number 194) and became Som's second single hit. In 2018 Som produced the album Elle et moi by the Canadian singer Marie-Mai . This album contains the song Je Décolle , which was awarded the SOCAN No. in the same year . 1 Song Award .

In 2018 Som supported young musicians in the format Our Song for Israel within a so-called "Songwriting Camp". The “Songwriting Camp” took place from November 5th to 9th, 2018 in the Berlin Kung Fu Studios and another studio in Berlin-Tempelhof . A total of 25 international songwriters took part, who each wrote songs with the six participating artists. In the end, no authors made it into the final show.
