The two-armed javelin throw of the men at the 1912 Olympic Games in Stockholm was held on July 9, 1912 in the Stockholm Olympic Stadium. 14 athletes took part. This discipline was only part of the program of the Olympic Games in 1912.

The Finn Juho Saaristo was the Olympic champion ahead of his compatriots Väinö Siikaniemi and Urho Peltonen .

Existing records

  • World records were not set in the two-handed javelin throw.
  • Olympic record : Since the competition was on the Olympic program for the first time, there was not yet an Olympic record.

Conducting the competition

All athletes had three attempts each with their left and right arms. The final result of the preliminary round was calculated by adding up the best distances. The three best throwers then had another three attempts per arm, whereby the results of the first three rounds were included in the evaluation. However, the final round was canceled because the three leading Finns after the preliminary match agreed to use the existing result as the final result.

Note: The upper width indicates the result with the right arm, the lower one the result with the left arm. The widths that were used to determine the overall stand are shown in bold.

Date: July 9, 1912

Of the 14 starters, only one did not come from a Scandinavian country: the Hungarian Mór Kóczán . Seven participants were Swedes, four Finns and two Norwegians.

The three leading Finns after the preliminary fight, Juho Saaristo, Väinö Siikaniemi and Urho Peltonen, agreed not to go through the final and to keep the positions from the preliminary fight. The great Eric Lemming, Olympic champion in the impressive javelin throw of 1908 and also here in Stockholm , this time came away with no medals . The fourth place remained for him. The 61.00 m, which Juho Saaristo reached in the third attempt with his right - his regular - throwing arm, was recognized as the official Olympic record in the javelin throw.
