The team was only able to participate after the Greek American Community ran a fundraiser to cover the cost of the trip. The most successful athletes were Georgios Zervinis and Ioannis Farmakidis with fourth and fifth place in the wrestling. The flag bearer was the hurdler Christos Mantikas . Peter Clentzos competed for Greece although he grew up in America and John Moralis (Ioannis Moralis) apparently stayed in the United States after the Games.
It was Greece's ninth participation in the Summer Olympics since 1896 . The youngest participant was Angelos Lambrou (20 years, 58 days), the oldest John Moralis (29 years, 61 days).
