history

Royal Caribbean Cruise Line, which was then based in Oslo, commissioned three motorized passenger ships developed as Caribbean cruise ships as early as the late 1960s. The ships Song of Norway , Nordic Prince and Sun Viking built at the Wärtsilä shipyard in Helsinki together made up the Song of Norway class . The Sun Viking was laid down under the hull number 394 and was the last of the three sister ships built near Wärtsilä in Helsinki. It was launched on November 27, 1971.

After delivery on November 10, 1972, the Sun Viking began a service period of more than two decades with Royal Caribbean in December, during which it was mainly used for cruises from Miami to the Caribbean . However, she also made long trips to Canada , Alaska and Asia . In September 1997, Royal Caribbean announced the sale of the ship after 25 years of service.

1998: Superstar Sagittarius

In January 1998 the Sun Viking was sold to the shipping company Star Cruises from Panama , which renamed it Superstar Sagittarius and used it for cruises in Asia from the base port of Port Klang in Malaysia in the following months .

1998 to 2001: Hyundai Pongnae

Hyundai Merchant Marine, based in Panama, acquired the ship in September 1998 and started using it as the Hyundai Pongnae for voyages to North Korea from November 1998 .

2001 to 2003: Pongnae

From 2001 the ship was laid up and was for sale. Tropical View chartered the ship in 2002 and used it for casino cruises from Haikou to Hainan and Halong Bay in August and September of that year . From September 2002, the ship, renamed Pongnae , was in Busan , South Korea .

2003 to 2007: Omar III

In April 2003 the operator Kong Way from Hong Kong took over the ship and used it as Omar III under the Panamanian flag for casino cruises off Hong Kong and Singapore . The Omar III was managed by Asia Cruises.

2007 to 2011: Long Jie

In June 2007 Real Win Ltd. took over from Singapore the ship and renamed it Long Jie . Sanyang Marine from Singapore was specified as the shipowner. The Long Jie was henceforth used for casino cruises off Singapore and was advertised for sale in July 2010 after three years of service.

Since 2011: Oriental Dragon

The ship was sold to a Chinese company in February 2011 for almost USD 13 million and has since been used as the Oriental Dragon for casino cruises in Hong Kong Bay.
