The Ocean Star Pacific was a cruise ship that was last used by the Mexican shipping company Ocean Star Cruises .

history

1971-1995: Nordic Prince

The Nordic Prince was the second of three Song of Norway class ships that were built at Wärtsilä for Royal Caribbean International , founded in Norway in 1968 . She was launched on July 9, 1970 and was the shipping company's second ship when it entered service on July 31, 1971. Like her sister ships, the Song of Norway and Sun Viking , she was mainly in the Caribbean from Miami . In June 1980 the Nordic Prince was extended by 26 meters - again at Wärtsilä - and then used worldwide.

1995-2005: Carousel

In March 1995, the Nordic Prince was the first ship to be replaced by Royal Caribbean and sold to Sun Cruises. They had the “Viking Crown Lounge” around the chimney removed. Under the new name Carousel it was on the road again from May 6, 1995 - mostly in the Mediterranean in summer and in the Caribbean in winter.

2005-2006: Aquamarine

In July 2004 the ship was sold to the Cypriot Louis Cruise Lines . The Carousel was chartered for Sun Cruises until May 2005 , when they gave up the cruise business. In Aquamarine renamed the ship from June 2005 by leading Genoa made for Louis Cruises in the Mediterranean.

2006-2008: Ariel

In April 2006, Transocean Cruises took over the ship and renamed her Arielle . The five-year charter contract was canceled at the beginning of 2008.

2008-2010: Aquamarine

After the contract was terminated, the ship was again on the road for Louis Cruise Lines and has since been called Aquamarine again .

2010-2014: Ocean Star Pacific

The ship was sold to the first Mexican cruise line Ocean Star Cruises in 2010 for USD 23.4 million and was named Ocean Star Pacific on December 15, 2010 in Piraeus . The extensive renovation work in the dry dock of Curaçao lasted from January to March 2011. The official christening took place on April 8, 2011 by the Mexican President Felipe Calderón . The first voyage under a new name started on April 11, 2011 from Acapulco . On April 16, 2011, a fire broke out in the ship's engine room. Although the fire was quickly extinguished, but the ship was after this incident launched .

2014–2015: Pacific

In August 2014, the ship was renamed Pacific and registered under the flag of St. Kitts and Nevis . In October the ship was sailing between the ports of Mazatlán and Guaymas  .

On December 12, 2014, the ship ran aground off General Santos in the Philippines . The ship was supposed to be storing fuel in General Santos City . On December 15, the Philippine Coast Guard began preparations for the salvage work. The salvage was carried out by the salvage company Harbor Star Shipping Services Inc. On December 16, 2014, the ship was successfully pulled into deeper waters. On February 22, 2015, the ship was beached in Alang and subsequently scrapped.

Incidents

  • In February 2000, she ran aground near the Mexican seaside resort of Cancun .
  • On May 8, 2008, the ship collided with the quay wall in the port of Heraklion . Although this caused a five-meter-long crack, the ship continued to sail towards Santorini . The several centimeters wide crack was about one and a half meters above the waterline, so that there was no direct danger for the 872 passengers and crew members. According to the shipping company, the damage was caused by strong winds. The Greek coast guard stopped the voyage and diverted the ship to Piraeus .
  • On April 16, 2011, one of the six generators on board caught fire just eight kilometers off the coast of Santa María Huatulco . The 560 passengers were brought ashore unharmed. Due to the associated power failure, the ship was without propulsion or energy for around seven hours. The ship was transferred to Salina Cruz for inspection and checked there by Det Norske Veritas in cooperation with the Mexican authorities.
