Osakis is a small town in Minnesota , United States , located primarily in Douglas County ; but a small part of the place extends into Todd County . At the 2010 census, the place had 1,740 inhabitants. Osakis is the birthplace of the author Leif Enger , who wrote the novel Peace Like a River .

Osakis is located on the southwestern shore of Lake Osakis on Minnesota State Route 27 , near Exit 114 of Interstate 94 . A BNSF Railway also runs through the city .
