Oscar Fritschi

Oscar Felix Fritschi (born February 25, 1939 in Winterthur , entitled to live there ; † January 8, 2016 in Wetzikon ) was a Swiss politician ( FDP ).

Fritschi grew up as the son of a free-spirited manager of the textile industry in Winterthur and joined the young liberals at an early age. He completed a history degree at the University of Zurich and was awarded a Dr. phil. PhD . He then worked as a high school teacher and also wrote reports on party meetings, including for the Neue Zürcher Zeitung (NZZ).

In 1965, Ernst Bieri, the then Cantonal Party President and editor of the NZZ, appointed him party secretary for the Canton and City of Zurich. In 1972 Fritschi moved to Zurich Oberland as editor-in-chief .

In the 1970s and 1980s he was an international handball referee.

1986 to 1992 Fritschi was President of the FDP of the Canton of Zurich . From 1991 to 1992 he was a member of the Cantonal Council of the Canton of Zurich. On November 25, 1991 he was elected to the National Council and had a seat there in the security, state and editorial commissions. He did not run for the 1999 parliamentary elections and therefore resigned from the Grand Chamber on December 5, 1999 . He was then President of the European Conference on Human Rights and Self-Determination.

In 2004 Fritschi retired, but remained Chairman of the Board of Directors of the Uster Gazette , head of the Zürcher Oberländers . He was also appointed to the board of the FDP in the Hinwil district and President of the Foundation for Archeology and Cultural History in the Canton of Zurich.

In the Swiss Army , Fritschi was a Colonel of the Mechanized and Light Troops . He was single.

Fritschi died on January 8, 2016 after a short hospital stay in Wetzikon.
