Oskar Aurich

Oskar Aurich (born October 8, 1877 in Neukirchen, Erzgebirge , † November 1968 in Dresden ) was a German sculptor and medalist .

Life

He spent his childhood in Neukirchen in the Ore Mountains and went to elementary school there . He first studied in 1892 at the Dresden School of Applied Arts and from 1898 to 1902 at the Munich Art Academy . In 1903 and 1904 he studied at the Dresden Art Academy . From 1905 he worked as a freelance sculptor in Dresden. Later he had his own studio at Alemannenstraße 22 and lived at Schulgutstraße 17. He was bombed out by the devastating bombing raids on Dresden and lost his studio and his works.

He was represented with his works at art exhibitions in Dresden, Berlin and Munich . He mainly created plaques and medals , genre sculptures, portrait busts and war memorials in the Saxon rural areas. After the war he worked as a lecturer at the University of Fine Arts. The medalist Friedrich Wilhelm Hörnlein made a silver medal for Oskar Aurich in 1911 .
