Oskar Wagner (theologian)
Oskar Wagner (born May 21, 1906 in Hartfeld near Lemberg , † December 18, 1989 in Munich ) was a German Protestant theologian and church historian .
Life
The teacher's son Oskar Wagner graduated from the Staatsgymnasium in Stryj with distinction , before he devoted himself to the studies of Protestant theology and philosophy in Vienna and Marburg from 1924 to 1928, and then to Eastern European history in Vienna. Wagner - he was subsequently to 1931 in Vienna as a vicar - in 1930 when Hans Berger About the work The Union of Brest (1596) in the light of the Polish state idea doctorate .
On February 1, 1932, the only 25-year-old Oskar Wagner was appointed regional synod pastor of the Evangelical Uniate Church in Polish Upper Silesia , a synodal association with the status of an old Prussian church province (1923-1937) and seat in Katowice . On February 7, 1932, he was in the Church of the Resurrection of the Church President Voss Herrmann ordained . After Herrmann Voß's death in 1938, he was appointed church president, but was expelled in the same year, after which he worked for a year as a consultant for Upper Silesia at the consistory in Wroclaw before he was drafted into military service.
After returning from American captivity , Wagner was a substitute pastor in Middle Franconia and from 1950 until his retirement in 1971 he was pastor of the Matthäus congregation in Munich . Wagner was in charge of the "Evangelical Craftsmen's Association of 1848" , was a board member of the Silesian Church Congress, co-founder of the Institute for Protestant Church History in Vienna and co-editor of the magazine "Kyrio" . In 1986, Wagner's collected essays appeared under the title Between, Völkern, States and Churches. On the history of the Protestants in East Central Europe .
