Otto Axer

Otto Axer (born July 3, 1906 in Przemyśl , † May 24, 1983 in Warsaw ) was a Polish set designer and painter .

Life

Axer studied from 1924 to 1930 at the Academy of Fine Arts in Cracow . He then received a scholarship in Paris from 1930 to 1931 . After returning to Poland, he made his debut as a theater set designer in 1932 and was associated with the theaters in Lwów and Łódź until 1939 . During the German occupation he taught at the craft school in Warsaw until he was deported to the POW camp in Altengrabow . After the Second World War, he worked with Leon Schiller at the Teatr Wojska Polskiego in Łódź from 1946 to 1949 and, after its dissolution, from 1949 to 1973 at the Polish Theater in Warsaw. In addition, he gave lectures from 1947 to 1952 at the State University of Theater in Łódź and later in Warsaw. From 1959 he worked with Telewizja Polska . Axer retired in 1973.
