Otto Hermann Ciliax (born June 21, 1939 in Wilhelmshaven ; † June 14, 2016 in Kiel ) was a German naval officer ( flotilla admiral ).

Military background

Promotions

Ciliax joined Crew IV / 59 in Glücksstadt in 1959 and was trained as a naval officer. He then served as a torpedo and anti-submarine fighter officer on the destroyer Z 4. In 1963, he became lecture director at the Mürwik naval school in Flensburg. In 1964/65 he took part in the submarine hunting / torpedo B course. In 1965 he became the first officer on watch and in 1966 the commander of the speedboat "Häher" . 1969 followed the USA training and his employment as a submarine hunting officer on the destroyer "Rommel" . In 1971/72 he was lecture director at the marine underwater weapons school in Eckernförde.

From 1972 to 1974 he took part as a corvette captain in the 14th admiral staff course at the leadership academy of the Bundeswehr (FüAkBw) in Hamburg. For his annual work, he was honored in 1974 with the "General von Clausewitz Medal of Honor" from the Clausewitz Society . Then he was S3 of the 3rd Schnellbootgeschwader (SGschw). From 1976 to 1978 he was then commander of the 5th Schnellbootgeschwader. Subsequently he was a consultant in the command staff of the armed forces (Fü S III 2). From 1980 to 1983 he was Assistant Chief of Staff Plans Division at HQ Allied Forces Northern Europe (AFNORTH) in Kolsås. In 1984/85 he was Head of Division Fü M VI 1 and from 1985 to 1991 Head of the Planning Department in the Naval Management Staff (Fü M VI) in Bonn.

From 1991 to 1994 he was commander of the Rostock naval command - commander of the naval forces and section commander - in Rostock. In 1995 he was Deputy Admiral Naval Training in the Naval Office (MarA) in Wilhelmshaven. In his last employment he was deputy commander and commander of the military area troops of the military area command (WBK) I / 6th Panzer Grenadier Division in Kiel . He was retired on September 30, 1998.

In 1997 he was a founding board member of the Societas Theologicum Ordinem Adiuvantium (STOA) at the Theological Faculty of the University of Kiel.
