Otto Ludwig von Wobeser (born February 19, 1745 on Groß Silkow in Silkow , † May 10, 1805 in Magdeburg ) was a Prussian major general , commander of Magdeburg and governor of Saatzig in Western Pomerania .

Life

His parents were the heir of Silkow Erdmann Bogislaw von Wobeser (* 1707; † October 19, 1770) and his wife Sophie Katharina, born von Blumenthal (* September 2, 1718; † June 26, 1788) from the Quakenburg family.

Military career

On March 1, 1760 Wobeser came as a private corporal in the infantry regiment "von Manteuffel" of the Prussian army . There he became an ensign on November 15, 1760 and took part in the Seven Years War . He fought in the sieges of Kolberg and Schweidnitz . After the war he was transferred to the 1st Battalion of the Guard on November 25, 1763 . On January 29, 1768 he became second lieutenant there . On May 20, 1772 he was accepted into the Order of St. John . Wobeser was promoted to Prime Lieutenant on October 22, 1775 and as such took part in the War of the Bavarian Succession in 1778/79 . After the war he became a staff captain on June 14, 1783 and on February 1, 1785 leader of the personal company in the 1st Battalion of the Guard. On January 22, 1787 he was patented November 4, 1784 major and on February 10, 1788 company commander in the 1st Battalion of the Guard. To this end, he was appointed governor in Saatzig in Western Pomerania on February 16, 1788. On May 20, 1792 he was promoted to lieutenant colonel, during the First Coalition War he took part in the siege of Mainz and fought in battle near Trippstadt. On January 14, 1794 he was promoted to colonel and on July 14, 1794 he received the order Pour le Mérite for Trippstadt. On January 13, 1798, he was transferred to Magdeburg as a commandant with a salary of 1200 thalers and in this position was promoted to major general on June 7, 1800 with a patent from June 10, 1800. From September 13, 1803, Wobeser received an allowance of 100 thalers. However, since his health was already badly affected, he was granted a longer vacation in Karlsbad on April 9, 1805 . He died on May 10, 1805 in Magdeburg.

family

Wobeser married on December 29, 1789 in Potsdam Dorothea Hedwig Charlotte von Natzmer (* February 21, 1749 - March 4, 1827) widowed von Natzmer. This made the future General Oldwig von Natzmer his stepson. But his nephew Friedrich Wilhelm Erdmann von Wobeser († 1812) was heir.
