Otto Melander
Otto Melander (also Otho Schwarzenthal, Schwarzmann, Holzapfel ; * 1571 in Hohne near Eschwege , † 1640 in Prague ) was a German legal scholar, diplomat and writer.
Life
Act
The grandson of Dionysius Melander and son of Dionys [is] Melander, according to his own statements, studied law at the University of Wittenberg . After trying unsuccessfully as a lawyer in Marburg , Hanau and Herborn , he went to Bohemia , where he gained the trust of Emperor Ferdinand II as a diplomat and lawyer . Therefore he converted from the Protestant faith to the Roman Catholic.
In his early legal writings, disgusted by the cruel "water test", he spoke out against witch trials . In addition, with his Idea sive Exegesis universi studi politici, ex media Jurisprudentia ac civili sapientia desumta , published in 1599, he drafted the founding publication of academic political science in Germany. Building on his father's collection, he maintained the collection of Latin swans, jokes, anecdotes and apophtegmata, which he brought to print from 1600–1604. Since this work was received very positively, Wolfgang Ketzel published the German translation under the title Joco Seria, Das ist Schimpff and Ernst, first in Lich in 1605 and in Darmstadt in 1618. Until the 18th century, the content it contained was widely adopted by other authors of the same genre.
Land acquisition
1629 bought Melander the rule of German Bilau consisting of the villages Bela nad Svitavou , Vítějeves , Chrastavec , Brněnec , Půlpecen and Zářečí , today a district of Březová nad Svitavou and the government cretin, consisting of the villages Vřesice , Vranová , Křetín , Veselka , Dolní Poříčí , Horní Poříčí , Prostřední Poříčí , Bohuňov , Študlov and Bradlné .
family
In 1631 Otto Melander married Sophia Sidonia von Grünberg, daughter of Johann Christoph von Grünberg, imperial chamber councilor.
