Otto Peyer

Otto Rudolph Peyer (born July 27, 1839 in Sorau , district of Sorau (Lausitz) , † June 18, 1899 in Dresden ) was a German diplomat .

Life

Born the son of a local councilor , Peyer studied law in Heidelberg and Berlin . During his studies in 1859 he became a member of the Allemannia Heidelberg fraternity . In 1862 he became an auscultator at the Court of Appeal in Halberstadt , and in 1864 court trainee in Sorau and Breslau . In 1866 he took part in the German War as an officer in the infantry regiment "Prince Louis Ferdinand of Prussia" (2nd Magdeburgisches) No. 27 , including the Battle of Münchengrätz and the Battle of Königgrätz . In 1868 he passed his exam. In the Franco-Prussian War of 1870/71 he took part in the Battle of Beaumont and the Battle of Paris . In 1872 he entered the consular career and became Vice Consul of the Consulate General in Alexandria ( Egypt ). After further stations he was from 1875 to 1877 Imperial Consul in Le Havre ( France ). In 1877 he became a real councilor and lecturer in the Foreign Office , where he worked in the personnel department. In 1880 he became Imperial Minister Resident in Caracas ( Venezuela ). After eleven years, he was appointed envoy to the five Central American Free States based in Guatemala . In 1895 he went into temporary retirement.
