Otto Rauth (painter)

Otto Rauth (born May 17, 1862 in Heilbronn ; † December 21, 1922 in Hanover ) was a German illustrator, draftsman, painter and art teacher.

Rauth was the son of the painter Carl Ludwig Rauth . He studied from 1887 to 1882 under Jakob Grünenwald and Alexander von Liezen-Mayer at the Stuttgart Art Academy and from October 1884 the subject of painting at the Munich Art Academy under “Fr. Seitz ".

In the 1890s Rauth settled in Hanover and has since painted in particular landscapes, still lifes and cityscapes of Hanover. He was supported by the city director Heinrich Tramm . Rauth worked as a teacher at the Hanover School of Applied Arts . For many years he was a member of the Kunstverein Hannover ; In 1923, one year after Rauth's death, he organized a large commemorative exhibition, the so-called "Autumn Exhibition", for the painter.

Works by Rauth can be found in the Lower Saxony State Museum in Hanover.

He also made 14 illustrations for the book The Mayor and His Son: A story from old Heilbronn by Philipp Spieß. 24 watercolors with views from Old Hanover came into the collection of the Vaterländisches Museum in Hanover.
