Owen Tippett (born February 16, 1999 in Peterborough , Ontario ) is a Canadian ice hockey player who has been under contract with the Florida Panthers in the National Hockey League since July 2017 and also for their farm team, the Springfield Thunderbirds , in the American Hockey League for Use comes. In the 2017 NHL Entry Draft , he was selected by the Panthers in tenth overall position.
Career
Owen Tippett was born in Peterborough and played for the Peterborough MHA in his youth and for the Toronto Red Wings in the 2013/14 and 2014/15 seasons . In 2015, the right winger was selected in fourth place in the Priority Selection of the Ontario Hockey League (OHL) by the Mississauga Steelheads and played for the team at the start of the 2015/16 season. In his first OHL year, Tippett scored 15 goals in 48 games and was called to the OHL First All-Star Team as a result . In the 2016/17 season, his draft year, the Canadian significantly increased his personal statistics to 75 points from 60 games. As a result, he was considered one of the most promising talents and the best classic scorer in the upcoming NHL Entry Draft 2017 , so the International Scouting Services saw him in fourth place, while the NHL Central Scouting Services ranked him seventh among the North American outfield players. In the actual draft, the Florida Panthers then selected him from position ten and equipped the attacker with an entry-level contract a few weeks later .
In the subsequent pre-season season, Tippett earned a place in the Panthers squad and subsequently made his debut in the National Hockey League (NHL) in October 2017 . After seven NHL appearances, however, he was sent back to the Steelheads in the OHL in November to ensure him further game practice there. There he ended the season and was then sent for a few games to the Springfield Thunderbirds in the American Hockey League (AHL), the farm team of the Panthers. For the 2018/19 season, the attacker returned to the OHL, where he was transferred within the league from the Steelheads to the Saginaw Spirit in January 2019 . There he ended his junior career and switched permanently to the Panthers organization for the 2019/20 season.
International
With the selection of his home province of Ontario, Tippett won the gold medal at the Canada Games 2015. He then gained his first international experience at the World U-17 Hockey Challenge 2015 , where he also won the gold medal with Team Canada White and was elected to the all-star team of the tournament. He then represented his home country at the U18 World Cup in 2016 , the Ivan Hlinka Memorial Tournament in 2016 and the U20 World Cup in 2019 , where the medal ranks were missed.
