The cooperative PSD banking group found its origin more than 140 years ago in what was then the Post, Savings and Loan Association. In 1872 the Imperial General Post Office suggested the establishment of savings and advance payment associations for the post office. In the same year, the post, savings and loan associations, today's PSD banks, were founded. Until the privatization of the Deutsche Bundespost in the 1990s, the PSD banks did not have to appear on the free financial market; Customers and members were all postal workers and their family members. Thanks to a rapid development in recent years, the PSD banks together have over 1.3 million customers. PSD Bank Köln eG was created in 2002 from the merger of the former PSD Bank Köln eG with PSD Bank Trier eG. The name of the merged bank was PSD Bank Köln eG.
