The place is mentioned for the first time in 1244 as Borsa . The name is based on the old noble family Borsay who owned goods around the place. In the 15th and 16th centuries the agricultural place was divided into an upper, middle and lower part, which only reunited in the 19th century, the districts of Stredná Borša (Hungarian Közép-Borsa ) and Malá Borša (Hungarian Kisborsa ) still show point out.
