geography

The place is located in the Danube lowlands , five kilometers northeast of the city of Senec and 23 kilometers southwest of Trnava .

history

Boldog was first mentioned as Tulwej in 1245 . A place there is only mentioned as Toluoyfolua in 1351 . In 1358 the place came with the neighboring Saaralia to the order of the Poor Clares of Old Buda. These two settlements then merged into a place called Boldogasszonyfalva , named after the patroness of the local church, Blessed Mary .

Until 1918 the place was in Pressburg County in the Kingdom of Hungary , then it came to the newly formed Czechoslovakia . 1938-45 the place was again in Hungary due to the First Vienna Arbitration . The too church-oriented Slovak name Matka Božia ("Mother of God") was changed in 1960 in favor of the Hungarian name in Boldog.

Others

In the originally Romanesque church from the 13th century, which has now been converted into Baroque style, a limestone tablet with Roman inscriptions was found during a renovation in 1976. With the time of origin around the year 100 it concerns one of the oldest inscriptions of this kind in today's Slovakia, even before the famous inscription on a rock in Trenčín .
