Vlky (German Nickelsdorf , Hungarian Vők ) is a small community in Bratislavský kraj in southwestern Slovakia .
geography
The place is in the Danube lowlands in the northwest part of the Große Schüttinsel on the right bank of the Little Danube . The place can only be reached by road from Tomášov (3 km) and is 21 km away from the capital Bratislava .
history
The place was first mentioned as Welk in 1260 and since the end of the 13th century it belonged to the Pressburg Chapter and Provost, which profited from fishing in the community. In the 16th century, the neighboring village of Banvelk merged with Vlky, which had belonged to the Pálffy family since the 17th century .
Until 1918 the place was in Pressburg County in the Kingdom of Hungary and then came to the newly formed Czechoslovakia . Due to the First Vienna Arbitral Award , the place became part of Hungary again in 1938-45.
