Philip Glenister

Philip Haywood Glenister (born February 10, 1963 in Harrow , London ) is a British actor . He is the son of television director John Glenister and brother of actor Robert Glenister .

Life

Philip Glenister grew up in Hatch End, Harrow, London . Interest in acting was sparked by attending a play about the Sex Pistols in which his brother Robert participated. Robert Glenister's then-wife, actress Amanda Redman, persuaded Glenister to apply to the Central School of Speech and Drama , which he attended from 1987 to 1990.

In the early 1990s he starred in numerous English television productions. He was on German television in 1996 as PC Denning in an episode of forensic doctor Dr. Samantha Ryan ( Silent Witness ), season 1, episode 3: "Countdown to Death".

He also played in the theater on the side.

Other important roles were those of the righteous William Dobbin in Vanity Fair ( Vanity Fair ) in 1998 and the factory owner James "Mack" Mackintosh in Clocking Off (2000-2002). In 2003 he played William Stafford in the BBC production The Other Boleyn Girl . Also in 2003, he took over the role of the photographer in Calendar Girls ( Calendar Girls ). In the six-part BBC series Murder on Page One ( State of Play ), he starred alongside John Simm as DCI William Bell. Also in 2003 he played the role of William Fletcher in the BBC two-part Byron . In 2004, he portrayed the German commander Baron Heinrich von Rheingarten in the six-part television production Island at War .

Glenister became popular with his portrayal of the uncompromising, politically incorrect DCI Gene Hunt in the BBC series Life on Mars - Caught in the 70s at the Side of John Simm (2006-2007) and Ashes to Ashes - Back to the 80s ( 2008–2010) on the side of Keeley Hawes known. He also took on the role of progressive land manager Carter in Cranford in 2007 , a television series set in England in the 1840s. In 2008 he again played alongside John Simm in Tuesday .

In February and March 2011, Glenister appeared in the successful four-part Sky production Mad Dogs together with John Simm , Marc Warren and Max Beesley in the role of psychology professor Quinn. His appearances in the movie Bel Ami alongside Robert Pattinson and Uma Thurman and in the two-part Sky production Die Schatzinsel - Tresure Island were seen in 2012. In October 2011, Philip Glenister starred in the four-part BBC production Hidden . In early 2012, a second season of Mad Dogs went on air, the filming of the third season began in late January 2012. Between September 18 and December 1, 2012 Philip Glenister was back on stage. He played MP Walter Harrison in "This House" at London's Royal National Theater .

Philip Glenister has been married to actress Beth Goddard since 2006 . The two met in 1997 at a birthday party of Jamie Glover . The couple have two daughters.
