Pablo Barrachina Estevan (born October 31, 1912 in Jérica , Castellón Province , Spain , † October 13, 2008 in Alicante ) was a Spanish clergyman and Roman Catholic bishop of Orihuela-Alicante .

Life

Pablo Barrachina Estevan studied at the seminary of the diocese of Segorbe; at the Pontifical Gregorian University he received his doctorate in canon law . He was ordained a priest for the diocese of Segorbe in 1941 . From 1941 to 1945 he was a professor at the Metropolitan Seminar in Valencia . In 1945 he became a canon at the Cathedral of Segorbe and Subregens and professor of philosophy at the diocesan seminary. He was also involved in Catholic Action . In 1952 he became director of the diocese secretariat for appointments. In 1953 he became a delegate for the lay apostolate .

1954 he was by Pope Pius XII. appointed Bishop of Orihuela. He was ordained bishop on June 29, 1954 in his hometown of Jérica by the Apostolic Nuncio in Spain and later cardinal to the Curia , Ildebrando Antoniutti ; Co- consecrators were José Pont y Gol , Bishop of Segorbe, and Jacinto Argaya Goicoechea , Auxiliary Bishop in Valencia .

Pablo Barrachina Estevan was the dean of the Spanish bishops. He reorganized the territorial areas of the Diocese of Orihuela, as a result of which the diocese was renamed the Diocese of Orihuela-Alicante. He was a participant in the Second Vatican Council . In 1963, among many other activities, he founded the radio station "Radio Popular" in Alicante.

In 1989, his age-related resignation was granted by John Paul II and Francisco Álvarez Martínez was named as his successor, who had been Bishop of Tarazona and Calahorra y La Calzada-Logroño.
