Leases ( in the local, Moselle-Franconian dialect Paaten ) is a district of Dillingen / Saar and has around 4,300 mostly Catholic residents.

history

The place is of Celtic-Roman origin. The Vicus Contiomagus was a regional center in Gallo-Roman times at the intersection of two important highways from Metz to Mainz and from Trier to Strasbourg . Around 275/276 Contiomagus was destroyed in the course of the Germanic invasion. Individual finds of Roman origin have long been known, but systematic excavations did not begin until the 20th century . Excavation finds can be seen in the Leases Museum . The current name can be found from 1294. The manorial rule belonged to the Lords of Siersburg , who transferred it through donations (1292 and 1301) from the Coming Beckingen of the Teutonic Knights . In the 13th century, the monastery of St. Matthias also belonged to the landlords. In 1590, leasing was greater than Dillingen. After the Thirty Years' War there were only 16 families. A document from 1690 mentions that leases had to be paid to the abbess von Fraulautern , which lasted until the French Revolution . Until the 18th century, leases belonged to the Duchy of Lorraine , Amt Wallerfangen , and ecclesiastically to the Diocese of Trier . From 1802 to 1817 it was assigned to the diocese of Metz and was a subsidiary church of Dillingen. In 1827 leases became an independent parish.

  • 1878–1911: Nicolaus Hector (hived off from the mayor's office in Fraulautern on April 1, 1897 and incorporated into the mayor's office in Dillingen)
  • 1911–1918: Nikolaus Hoffmann
  • 1918–1921: Johann Klein

Attractions

In addition to the Roman finds (see “History”), the Catholic parish church of St. Maximin should be noted. In the tower hall of the neo-Gothic church there is a remarkable Romanesque lintel of the previous building depicting a dragon fight. Inside the church altars and figures from the 17th and 18th centuries. The Westwall bunker in Annastraße has been open to the public as a museum bunker since 2008 .

The Lease Museum is a museum for the prehistory and early history of the Saarlouis district and a local museum of leases. It has existed since 1990 and is housed in a former farmhouse. The focus of the exhibition is the Roman times in Contiomagus.

Say

Pilate in leases

Legend has it that after Pontius Pilate sentenced Jesus to death, he was sued. He was recalled to Rome and exiled to Gaul in a court case . Pilate came to Lachten on the Saar , where he died of suicide in 41. He threw himself into his sword and was buried as he was found: on "mouth and nose". Even today, on windy nights, you can hear his shrill call: "I am innocent of the blood of this righteous man."
