Padma Lakshmi
Padma Lakshmi (born September 1, 1970 in Chennai , India ) is an American film actress , television presenter and model .
Life
Early life
Padma Lakshmi was born the only child to an employee of the pharmaceutical company Pfizer and a nurse . Her parents separated when Padma was one year old and divorced another year later. Both later remarried. Padma Lakshmi has two half-siblings from her father's new connection.
Lakshmi moved to the United States with her mother and grew up in New York and later in Malibu . She graduated from high school in Industry , a suburb of Los Angeles . In 1984, the then 14-year-old Lakshmi was a passenger in a car that was involved in a traffic accident. Lakshmi survived with injuries, some of which were severe, including a broken hip. Today only a 17 cm long scar on her right arm reminds of the incident.
After high school she enrolled at Clark University in Worcester ( Massachusetts ) one in which they the in 1992 Bachelor in Theater Arts acquired.
Padma Lakshmi speaks five languages fluently, in addition to her native Malayalam , English , Spanish , Italian and Tamil .
Career
Lakshmi was discovered by a model scout while on vacation in India at the age of 16. As one of the first Indian models, she was soon on the catwalk in Paris , Milan and New York. Her well-known clients included Ralph Lauren , Emanuel Ungaro , Roberto Cavalli and Versace . She was also featured in numerous fashion magazines, including the well-known Cosmopolitan and Harper's Bazaar . The German photographer Helmut Newton never tried to touch up her physical flaw - her scar on her arm - so that Lakshmi is one of the few models with "blemishes".
Lakshmi began her career as an actress in 1998 as an actress in the Italian television film The Son of Sandokan . She took on other roles in 2002 as a guest actress on an episode of Star Trek: Enterprise and in 2006 in the television film The Ten Commandments , in which she played the Egyptian Princess Bithia.
Since 2002 she has also moderated the kitchen show Top Chef , in which, similar to its German counterparts, candidates have to cook for a jury. In 2007 she published a cookbook herself under the title Tangy, Tart, Hot and Sweet: A World of Recipes for Every Day .
In 2009 Lakshmi launched their first jewelry collection. The “Padma” collection named after Lakshmi consisted of forty pieces.
In 2013 she launched another collection entitled “PL” for the American teleshopping broadcaster HNS.
Private
On April 17, 2004, Padma Lakshmi married the Indian writer Salman Rushdie , whom she met at a party in 1999. The marriage lasted three years; on July 2, 2007 the divorce took place.
Lakshmi suffers from endometriosis , so doctors suspected that Lakshmi might be unable to have children for life. However, surprisingly for everyone involved, Lakshmi became the mother of a daughter on February 20, 2010. The father of the child is the American entrepreneur Adam Dell, the younger brother of Dell founder Michael Dell .
