Paluzzo Paluzzi Altieri degli Albertoni (born June 8, 1623 in Rome ; † June 29, 1698 ibid) was a cardinal and bishop .

Career

After studying in Perugia, where he also received his doctorate in law , he worked under Pope Urban VIII at the Apostolic Chamber , where he rose to head Uditore under Pope Alexander VII . Alexander VII made him cardinal on June 14, 1664 in pectore and publicly on February 15, 1666. Appointed Bishop of Montefiascone on March 29, 1666 , he received episcopal ordination on May 2, 1666 from Cardinal Ulderico Carpegna (co- consecrators were Titular Archbishop Stefano Ugolini of Corinth and the Bishop of Albengo, Giovanno Tommaso Pinelli) in S. Silvestro in Rome. In 1666 he also became a cardinal priest of Santi XII Apostoli . As the cardinal depository of Pope Clement X , who had adopted him and for whom he also took care of the affairs of state, appointed Archbishop of Ravenna on May 19, 1670, he became legate of Avignon on May 19, 1670 and was legate of Urbino from 1673 to 1677 , then also governor of Tivoli . On August 2, 1671, he was appointed Prefect of Propaganda Fide , which he remained until his death. For a short time he was also Vicar General for Rome and Prefect of Breven . On February 19, 1674 he resigned as Archbishop of Ravenna and was elevated to Cardinal Priest of San Crisogono on December 1, 1681 . Since November 13, 1684 Cardinal Priest of Santa Maria in Trastevere , he became Cardinal Bishop of Sabina on February 28, 1689 and Cardinal Bishop of Palestrina on August 8, 1691 .
