history

2004–2010: beginnings and debut album

Paper Route was founded in 2004 by Chad Howat. Due to his sleep disorders , he often stayed up late at night and wrote his first pieces of music. The band was later joined by his friends JT Daly and Andy Smith, with whom Howat had played since college in Greenville . In 2006 they began to release their first records, including the self-titled EP Paper Route released on August 29, 2006 and the Christmas album A Thrill of Hope . The latter appeared on the major label Universal Music , with which the band was under contract until 2010. On July 8th, 2008 another EP followed with the title Are We All Forgotten . The debut album Abscence was released on April 28, 2009. It is the first release on which the drummer Gavin McDonald can be heard, who had only recently officially joined the band. At Christmas of the same year, Thank God the Year Is Finally Over was also released. The band then toured with Paramore and Phantom Planet for a while .

2011–2013: Second album and chart success

After the release of the EP Additions , which contained several remixes , it became quiet for the first time around the band. It wasn't until it was announced that guitarist and long-time member Andy Smith had left the band in early 2012 that the media moved a little back into focus. On September 11, 2012, the three-man formation released their second studio album, The Peace of Wild Things, on the Tree of Hearts label. It contained ten songs and debuted at number 164 on the US Billboard 200 , where it lasted a week. It also ranked 34th on the New Zealand album charts. Afterwards they accompanied the Imagine Dragons on tour.

Since 2014: Third album and break

After Gavin McDonald also left the band, the rock band , which had meanwhile shrunk to a duo , had to cancel some appearances and put further single and sound carrier releases on hold for the time being. It was only when guitarist Nick Aranda joined them that they could continue working on a new album. This was released on September 23, 2016 via Kemosabe Records, a sub-label of Sony Music , under the name Real Emotion . It was received mostly positively - especially by the trade press - although it could not build on the great commercial success of the previous album. The single Chariots contained on Real Emotion was used for the soundtrack of the video game FIFA 17 .

At the beginning of 2019, the members announced on Twitter that they were taking an indefinite break as a music group. In particular, singer JT Daly has since devoted himself to other band projects, such as 2020 with The Voodoo Children .
