Paul Calderón

Paul Calderón (* 1959 ) is a Puerto Rican actor .

Life

Paul Calderón was born in Puerto Rico but moved with his family to New York City in the 1960s . From the mid-1980s he appeared in the theater and later in film and television productions. In 1986 he appeared in the Broadway production of Reinaldo Povod's play Cuba & His Teddy Bear on the side of Robert De Niro . He has also appeared in numerous off-Broadway plays. He worked at the Touchstone Theater and the Labyrinth Theater Company, among others.

In 1992, Calderón was involved in the script for Abel Ferrara's drama Bad Lieutenant and also took on a role in the film. Two years later Calderón was in the casting for Quentin Tarantino's film Pulp Fiction on the shortlist for the role of Jules Winnfield before Samuel L. Jackson prevailed against him with a furious script reading. However, Tarantino was so taken with Calderón's performance that he cast him in the role of bartender Paul .

In 1995 Calderón won an Obie Award for his appearance in the play Blade to the Heat at the Public Theater.

His marriage to Cathy Calderón had two children. Calderón has been a long-time salsa dancer and also gives dance lessons with his wife.
