Paul Gerstgraser (born May 22, 1995 in Schwarzach ) is a former Austrian Nordic combined athlete .

Career

Gerstgraser, who starts for SV Schwarzach-Salzburg , made his international debut at the Nordic Ski Games of the OPA 2010 in Eisenerz . There he came on in the individual of the students on the 13th place and in Team II he won the bronze medal. From December he started in the Alpine Cup. At the European Olympic Winter Youth Festival 2011 in Liberec , he finished fifth on the normal hill and over 7.5 km. In the following team sprint he won the gold medal with Philipp Orter . At his second Nordic ski games at the OPA 2011 in Baiersbronn , he won the silver medal in the individual juniors and in team I.

At the beginning of winter 2011/12 Gerstgraser started in Park City for the first time in the Continental Cup . In his second competition he reached the points in 26th place. At the 2012 Winter Youth Olympic Games in Innsbruck , Gerstgraser landed eighth in the Gundersen individual on the normal hill and over 10 km. As a result, the Austrian started again mainly in the Alpine Cup. At his third and last Nordic ski game at the OPA 2012 in Pokljuka , he won the gold medal in the junior singles and the silver medal in Team I.

At the Junior World Championships 2013 in Liberec , he won the silver medal in the team competition after finishing 23rd in the individual with the team. In February 2013 Gerstgraser came back to the Continental Cup squad and reached his first podium in this series in Eisenerz as second. Although he mostly achieved points in the following, he started again in the Alpine Cup from September 2013 to January 2014.

In Val di Fiemme , he stayed at the 2014 Junior World Championships without a Junior World Championship medal after 2013 . In the individual, he only landed in 23rd place. In September 2009 he won the Alpine Cup in Winterberg . At the beginning of the following winter 2014/15, Gerstgraser was part of the senior national squad on November 29, 2014 in Ruka for the first time in the Nordic Combined World Cup . As 32nd, he just missed his first World Cup points. After finishing 43rd in the Lillehammer World Cup , he won both Alpine Cup competitions in Seefeld in Tyrol . At the Continental Cup in Høydalsmo , Gerstgraser celebrated his first Continental Cup victory the following day after another second place. At his two World Cup starts as part of the Nordic Combined Triple in Seefeld, he again narrowly missed the points.

In the Nordic Junior World Championships in 2015 in Kazakhstan's Almaty won Gerstgraser in individual on the normal hill and over 10 km a his second Junior World Championships medal. In the following 5 km individual he was fifth. With the medal at the Junior World Championships, Gerstgraser secured a place for the 2015/16 World Cup season. In Chaux-Neuve , France , he finished 16th and was able to achieve his best World Cup result. In Chaux-Neuve he also convinced with the best running time.

In March 2017 and 2019 Gerstgraser became Austrian champion in cross-country skiing in the 30 km mass start race. He ended his active career on May 6, 2020.
