Paul Anthony Matthews (born April 7, 1983 ) is a retired Australian duathlete and triathlete .

Career

Paul Matthews starts as a professional triathlete mainly in the middle distance. He is known as a strong swimmer and his nickname is “Barny”. In 2000 he finished 17th at the Duathlon World Championships in France.

Middle distance winner 2005

In September 2005 he was able to win the first edition of the UK Ironman 70.3 in the middle distance (1.9 km swimming, 90 km cycling and 21.1 km running) .

Long distance since 2012

Since 2012 he has also started on the Ironman distance (3.86 km swimming, 180.2 km cycling and 42.195 km running) and on his first start he finished second at the Ironman Arizona . In October 2014, he finished 14th as the third fastest Australian at the Ironman Hawaii . He has not appeared internationally since 2017.

Paul Matthews lives in Murwillumbah with his wife and daughter and son .
