Paul Rocke

Paul Rocke (* 2. February 1870 in Delitzsch , † 21st May 1936 in Hamburg ) was a German general counsel , economists , bank manager , headmaster , lecturer , and nonfiction - author .

Life

Paul Rocke grew up in the early days of the German Empire . After his schooling, he studied the subjects of law and economics in Leipzig at the local university , where he initially 1893 the graduation to the Dr. jur. and then in 1894 to Dr. phil. completed. He then worked as a lawyer at the Minden Chamber of Commerce .

From 1895-1920 Paul Rocke was about a quarter century in Hannover as general counsel at the local Chamber of Commerce operates. At times parallel to this, he also worked for two decades from 1900 to 1920 as a lawyer at the Hanover stock exchange . In addition, from 1901 to 1914 he was the managing director of the Hanover Industry Club . During this time, Rocke also completed his habilitation in 1904 for legal and administrative studies at the Hanover Technical University , where he also taught as a private lecturer until 1908.

Already before the turn of the century Rocke had given a lecture at the negotiations of the General Assembly of the Verein für Socialpolitik 1899 in Breslau about the great fascination of modern department stores and the new "giant quantities" that came with them.

From 1905 until 1924 Paul Rocke was a member of the Insurance Advisory Board at the Reich Supervisory Office for Private Insurance. In addition, from 1906 to 1920 he was on the board of the Trade and Industry Museum in Hanover, which he founded .

After the First World War and at the beginning of the Weimar Republic , in a debate on October 31, 1919, the Hanoverian city director Robert Leinert was able to cite the Chamber of Commerce syndic "as key witness " for the incorporation of the industrial city of Linden into the city of Hanover: Rocke had said, the long overdue incorporation would only have been prevented by a "historical communal despotism that was eliminated by the state upheaval of last November".

From 1920 until 1935 Paul Rocke headed the Deutsche Sparkasse School as its director of studies. During this time, in 1922, he wrote a legal and political dissertation at the University of Hamburg under the title The Modern Development of the Savings Banks System, with special emphasis on the province of Hanover and the neighboring areas . In addition to his function as director of studies, Paul Rocke worked temporarily from 1923 to 1925 as director of the Kreissparkasse Linden-Hannover .

Paul Rocke died in Hamburg on May 21, 1936.
