Life

Paul Graf von Mezanelli was the son of Count Franz von Mezanelli and his wife Maria Theresia, née Countess von Michaeli. In 1777 he joined the Bavarian Cadet Corps in Munich as a retiree and officer-like volunteer and acquired a cavalry position in the “Minucci” cuirassier regiment in the same year . A ranking of 1778 leads Mezanelli as a captain with first lieutenant salary .

On March 5, 1786 he was promoted to major and on April 18, 1792 to lieutenant colonel. In February 1795 he was transferred to the 2nd Chevaulegers Regiment "Bretzenheim" . There he received the character of a colonel on May 15, 1798 . On October 11, 1798, Mezanelli was appointed his regimental commander and on May 14, 1799 was promoted to the real colonel of this unit, which led the number 3 from February 27, 1799. He commanded the regiment until he was promoted to major general on September 23, 1804, with army orders on September 28, 1804.

At the beginning of the campaign against Austria in 1805, Mezanelli commanded the 3rd Brigade. When Mezanelli took the fortress of Kufstein on November 10, 1805, he was particularly able to distinguish himself. On January 11, 1806, he received the Military Medal of Honor for taking Kufstein and, with an army order of March 1, 1806, when the Military Max Joseph Order was donated, his Knight's Cross.

In the following campaign against Prussia in 1806 Mezanelli led the 1st Brigade of the 2nd Army Division Werde. As a result of a sudden and serious illness of Lieutenant General Carl Philipp von Wrede , Mezanelli received temporary supreme command of the 2nd Division. With this large association he moved to Dresden , later via Cottbus and Guben to Breslau , which he succeeded in taking. After the occupation of Breslau (January 3, 1807) he commanded a cavalry brigade with which he participated with distinction in the siege of Brieg and the battle near Grottkau (January 10, 1807). In the army order of January 18, 1807, Mezanelli was named for his behavior.

After the campaign, Mezanelli received the cavalry brigade at the General Command in Swabia by army order of December 24, 1807. Just a month later, on January 25, 1808, he was retired as major general. Paul Graf von Mezanelli died on the night of November 22nd to 23rd, 1822 at the age of 65 in Kaufbeuren.
