Pazar ( Lasish Atina) is a Turkish coastal city on the Black Sea and capital of the district of the same name ( İlçe ) in the province of Rize . The city is located around 40 km northeast of the provincial capital Rize . In 1928 the city name was changed from Atina to Pazar, which means market place. Pazar is one of the oldest settlements in the area and is located on the D010 expressway that runs parallel to the Black Sea coast.

The district borders on Çayeli County to the west , Hemşin County to the south, Çamlıhemşin County to the southeast and Ardeşen County to the east . The terrain is mountainous and has deep river valleys. Summers are cool, while winters are wet and wet. The largest river in the district is the Hemşin Deresi .

The Rize-Artvin Havalimanı airfield is under construction near the village of Yeşilköy, 34 km east of Pazar.

In addition to the district town (fourth largest city in the province), the district consists of 48 villages ( Köy ) with an average of 317 inhabitants. The scale of the population ranges from 1,027 ( Hamidiye ) to 40 ( Şentepe ), 18 villages have more than 317 inhabitants. The two villages of Kocaköprü and Ocak became districts (Mahalle) of the district town in 2018. With 182.2 inhabitants per km², the district has twice as high a population density as the province.
