history

As Horsa in Dover, December 1973

The Horsa was created under the hull number CF 2 at Arsenal de la Marine National Francaise in Brest and was on the 29 April 1972 stack left. After the takeover by Sealink on July 30, 1972, the ship was put into service on August 2 on the route from Dover to Boulogne-sur-Mer .

In the following eighteen years of service for Sealink, Horsa changed routes several times. She was also involved in several incidents: in January 1975 she collided with the cargo ship Lord Warden in the port of Calais , on February 26, 1985 she ran aground off Folkestone and was damaged in one of the propellers.

In April 1990, went Horsa under the name Stena Horsa to the Stena Line . She continued to operate on changing routes in scheduled service off England and France. After almost two years in service, the ship was launched in Milford Haven in January 1992 .

In February 1992 the Stena Horsa went to Flanmare Shipping in Greece as Penelope A and was transferred to Piraeus . In the same year she started ferry operations between Rafina , Andros , Tinos and Mykonos for Agoudimos Lines .

From November 1999 to January 2004 the ship was chartered to Minoan Flying Dolphins under the name Express Penelope , before it returned to service for Agoudimos under its old name. On December 5, 2004, the Penelope A collided with the Efia Star ferry off Rafina , but was only slightly damaged.

In May 2013, the Penelope A was chartered to NEL Lines for a round trip via Lavrio to Agios Efstratios , Limnos and Kavala . Only a few weeks later, on July 1, the ship was moored in the port of Rafina, as the crew went on strike because of unpaid wages. The Penelope A did not return to service, but was instead brought to Eleusis in June 2014, where she is still anchored and for sale.
