Former municipality of Penk

Until the end of 1966, Penk was an independent municipality in the Mallersdorf district, which was dissolved in 1972 . At the 1961 census, the community had 167 inhabitants and consisted of the village of Penk, the parish village of Dürrenhettenbach , the hamlet of Stocka and the wasteland of Pirket . The community had its highest population of 235 in the first years after the end of the Second World War . On December 2nd, 1966 the local council decided with 5 to 1 votes to voluntarily join the communities of Bayerbach bei Ergoldsbach and Langenhettenbach . On January 1, 1967, the districts of Penk and Pirket came to the municipality of Bayerbach, the districts of Dürrenhettenbach and Stocka to the municipality of Langenhettenbach.

The town of Penk gained national fame in 1988 at the 30th anniversary celebration of the pine cone shooters Penk. The then Catholic parish priest Voss refused to hold a field service in Penk . He demanded that the clubs come to the parish church in Bayerbach, more than 2 km away, with around 300 seats. Since no agreement could be reached on the pastor's superiors either, they asked the Society of St. Pius X in the nearby Zaitzkofen. The then Regens Paul Natterer immediately declared himself ready to hold the mass in the Roman rite in Penk. On August 28, 1988, the solemn service was celebrated at the Ammerhof in the 50 soul village in Penk with over 5500 believers. Calls for boycotts by neighboring Catholic pastors in sermons , letters and in the press, including Vicar General Morgenschweiß in Regensburg, who publicly threatened the worshipers with excommunication and numerous television reports had caused additional, involuntary advertising.
