history

View from Kapellenberg to the parish church of St. Peter and Paul

On the Kapellenberg in the market you can find the still well-preserved double ramparts of the old ski jump , an early medieval rampart fortress. An unpaved Roman road presumably led from Landshut to Regensburg through the later Ergoldsbach. Ergoldsbach was first mentioned in a document in 822. The place belonged to the Landshut Rent Office and the Teisbach Regional Court of the Electorate of Bavaria. Ergoldsbach had a market court with its own magistrate rights. Due to the favorable location on the Landshut – Regensburg road, trade and industry developed alongside the rural population. In 1403 Ergoldsbach was raised to market status. From 1160 to 1449 there are documents from the "Nobles of Ergoldsbach". The following personalities belonged to this noble family based in Markte: Hildepodus von Ergolzepach, Heinrich von Ergoldsbach (based for the first time in 1267 in the then highly esteemed Hofmark zu Ergoldsbach), as well as knight Berchtold von Ergoldsbeck, who u. a. from 1310 to 1353 was mayor of Regensburg. A few fires changed the appearance of the place permanently. In 1860 the Ergoldsbacher roof tile works were inaugurated, and a railway from Landshut to Geiselhöring was opened, which brought an economic upturn to the market. The Ergoldsbacher Dachziegelwerke relocated its headquarters to neighboring Neufahrn after a fire . Fireplaces are manufactured in Ergoldsbach today. Ergoldsbach owned a girls 'and boys' school until the primary and secondary school was established in 1969/70. The girls' school was taught by Sisters of the Order of the Poor. In 1913 a hospital was built in Ergoldsbach , which was in operation until 1977. The Red Cross then converted it into a retirement and nursing home until it had to give way to a new building in 2004.

Incorporations

On January 1, 1972, the previously independent communities of Langenhettenbach and Prinkofen were incorporated. Paindlkofen was added on January 1, 1977. Kläham and Martinshaun followed on January 1, 1978.

Events surrounding the rescue of concentration camp prisoners in 1945

In April 1945 the SS handed over 13 Jewish concentration camp prisoners to the Ergoldsbach police officer Max Maurer , with instructions to shoot them. Maurer took the prisoners to Anna Gnadl's property , where they were taken in by the approaching Americans a day later. According to John Weiner , one of 13, Mason saved the lives of the inmates. For this he was honored by Israel in 1997 in Yad Vashem as Righteous Among the Nations .
