Peratallada is a suburb of the municipality of Forallac in Catalonia , Spain . It is located 22 km east of Girona .
The name Peratallada is derived from the Catalan pedra tallada ('cut stone' or 'broken rock'). In 1977 Peratallada merged with the neighboring towns of Vulpellac and Fonteta to form the new municipality of Forellac .
The privately run Peratallada Castle, like the 13th century Romanesque church of Sant Esteve, is a dominant structure in the center of town. The castle is documented as early as 1065 AD and was restored to a luxury hotel in the 1960s. Traces of settlement from the Bronze Age were found during the restoration . Today Peratallada is known for its old stone houses and furrowed stone alleys and passageways. Its proximity to the beaches of the Costa Brava and the numerous restaurants as well as small boutique hotels and artist galleries make Peratallada a popular travel destination.
