Begur (Spanish Bagur ) is a Catalan municipality in the province of Girona in northeastern Spain . It is in the comarca of Baix Empordà .

Location and description

Begur is about 32 kilometers east of Girona on the Costa Brava . The historic center is on a hill, the top of which is dominated by the ruins of a medieval castle.

Attractions

Begur there beside the castle ruins, numerous towers from the 16th century as well as houses and villas of rich in their native Spain returned America - and Cuba - emigrants from the 19th century to visit. This is still reflected in the architecture of the place today, and in Begur the former source of wealth is celebrated annually with the "Fira D'Indians" . The castle was built by Knights built Arnust de Begur in the 11th century. It was destroyed in 1810 during the Napoleonic Wars .
