The Spanish town of Bellcaire d'Empordà belongs to the Baix Empordà district in the province of Girona ( Catalonia ). To the north of Bellcaire d'Empordà is the small town of Albons , to the south the town of Torroella de Montgrí .

Like most places in the Empordà region , Bellcaire d'Empordà is located on a small hill. Before the 18th century, the region was covered with lakes and marshland. In the middle of the 18th century, the lakes were drained to create agricultural land.

Bellcaire d'Empordà is on the GI-632 road, with the C-31 expressway to the north.

The landscape is predominantly flat and agricultural. At the highest point of the village is the medieval castle, which was built in the 13th century by the Counts of Empúries .

history

The region was already settled in the Neolithic . The various architectural styles of the Romanesque church of San Joan de Bellcaire are evidence that the place already existed in early Christian, Romanesque and Gothic times.

Castell de Bellcaire: Castle and castle of the Counts of Empúries from the 13th century. Today the building is used by the local council, as a parish church and for various events.
