La Bisbal d'Empordà  is a Spanish city in the interior of the Costa Brava and the capital of the Comarca Baix Empordà in Catalonia . The city has 10,974 inhabitants ( INE  as of January 1, 2019) and covers an area of ​​21 km².

The name is derived from the Catalan bisbe and means "the episcopal", as La Bisbal d'Empordà was formerly headed by the Bishop of Girona . The d'Empordà appended to the city name comes from the county of Empordà .

Worth seeing
