Peter Christian Grünberg

Peter Christian Grünberg (born November 1, 1901 in Drelsdorf ; † November 6, 1975 in Bohmstedt ) was a German homeland researcher , linguist , writer and translator who devoted himself in particular to history, nature and the people of North Frisia and the North Frisian language .

Peter Grünberg was born as the first of three sons of Thomas August Grünberg and Catharina Margaretha Boockhoff in Drelsdorf near Bredstedt , north of Husum . His brothers were Erich and August Siegfried, who died at the age of eight months.

Through his own family research, Grünberg found out that his great, great, great grandfather Joachim August Grünberg, the youngest son of six children of Johann Jacob Grünberg and Sophia Elisabeth Eberhardt, had emigrated from Grabow in Mecklenburg-Schwerin to North Friesland in 1769 . He married Gondel Peters from Husum, daughter of Peter Ibsen, and fathered four sons and a daughter with her. From the second marriage with the widow Anna Margaretha Möller, b. Poppe, there were two more daughters. Sophia Elisabeth Eberhardt's parents were the pharmacist Christoph Eberhardt and Anna Catharina Marnitz. Johann Jacob Grünberg came from the von Grünberg family from Silesia.

In 1929 Grünberg married Theodora Paulsen (August 24, 1903 in Bohmstedt - February 24, 1993 in Niebüll ), daughter of Johann Friedrich Paulsen and Hanne Theodora Jensen. This marriage resulted in a daughter and a son.

Career

Peter Grünberg first attended elementary school in Drelsdorf . Just like his cousins ​​Julius Siegfried Grünberg, who later became the head of the school in Wanderup , and Max Theodor Grünberg, Grünberg attended the teachers' seminar in Tondern and passed his first teacher examination in Niebüll . He passed his second teacher examination in Drelsdorf, and he wrote his second teaching thesis on the subject of "Frisian vocalism in Drelsdorf".

At first he worked as a candidate teacher in Drelsdorf, as an assistant teacher at the agricultural school in Itzehoe , as a substitute teacher at the schools in Bordelum , Struckum and Sollwitt , until he was permanently employed as a teacher in Bordelum , where he also worked as headmaster.

At the Christian Albrechts University in Kiel , Grünberg worked for the North Frisian Dictionary Center and researched the differences and influences of the North Frisian language and its dialects.

The Nordfriisk Instituut in Bredstedt made him an honorary member.
