history
maschek were founded in 1996 after the members got to know each other while studying at the University of Vienna . The name of the group is derived from the Hungarian word másik , which translates as “die, der, das other” and has found its way into the Viennese dialect as “Maschekseite” (ie “reverse” or “reverse”) .
The appearance in December 1998 at the Hobbythek living room club in Vienna is considered to be maschek's stage debut . maschek produced programs for the newly created alternative radio and TV stations Orange 94.0 and TIV , appeared monthly from March 1999 to May 2000 as a midnight break in the Soft Egg Café in Vienna's Flex and experimented with TV for the first time while moderating an evening for the 1999 National Council election Live dubbing , which soon became the dominant element in maschek's performances. The short film Der Graue Star 2 - die Wehrmacht (1999) was shown at film festivals throughout German-speaking countries.
From 2002 onwards they appeared regularly at the Rabenhof Theater in Vienna under the title maschek.redet.drüber . In 2004/05 they produced the play The Great Television Swindle with director Ed Hauswirth ( Theater im Bahnhof ) . The Rabenhof Theater received the Nestroy Prize as best off-theater for this and two other productions of the season . From 2005 to 2010, the maschek.redet.drüber section was an integral part of Dorfers Donnerstalk , a cabaret show hosted by Alfred Dorfer on ORF . In 2009 and 2010 maschek was also repeatedly a guest at Harald Schmidt on ARD .
For the cabaret political puppet theater Bei Schüssels , maschek worked in 2006 under the direction of Rabenhof director Thomas Gratzer , with the original Wiener Praterkasperl and the caricaturist Gerhard Haderer . The great public success was continued the following year with Beim Gusenbauer . This was followed by Bei Faymann (2009) and Bye-Bye, Austria! (2013). After the fourth edition, the series received the joint title Puppenkiste .
From 2009 to 2014 they appeared with the three-part program series Fernsehtage , whereby television recordings of a single day are used as raw material for a full-length fictional story: 090909 - a catastrophic television day , 101010 - a revolutionary television day and 111111 - a phenomenal television day .
Since the beginning of 2012, maschek have been an integral part of the ORF late night show Willkommen Österreich with Stermann & Grissemann , where they present a new clip from the maschek.redet.drüber series live in the studio every week .
