Peter Larkin (film architect)
Peter Larkin (born August 28, 1926 in Boston , Massachusetts , † December 16, 2019 in Bridgehampton , New York ) was an American set designer and film architect .
Live and act
Larkin, who grew up in the greater Boston area, studied at Yale University and then worked as a production designer on New York Broadway theaters. From late 1951 to mid-1986 Larkin was a set designer for plays such as Die Wildente , First Lady, Bei Call Mord, Das kleine Teehaus (The Teahouse of the August Moon), Ondine, Peter Pan , Wer sät den Wind (Inherit the Wind), No. Time for Sergeants, Shangri-La, Zwang, Miss Isobel, Blue Denim, Goldilocks, The Shadow of a Gunman, Greenwillow, Die Möwe , Hexenjagd , Scuba Duba, Les Blancs, Twigs, Wise Child, Thieves, Ladies at the Alamo, Dancin ', Break a Leg, Doonesbury, The Rink and Big Deal . His last Broadway activity was in 2003 as a stage design consultant for the production of Salome with Oscar-winning Marisa Tomei in the title role and Al Pacino as Herodes Antipas. Larkin received a Tony Award for his sets for Ondine and The Teahouse of the August Moon (1954) and for Inherit the Wind and No Time For Sergeants (1956) . Further nominations for this renowned theater prize followed.
Peter Larkin was already 53 years old when he received his first commission for a film architecture. Very early on, he designed the sets for high-quality cinema entertainment, including the comedies The Crazy Neighbors , Tootsie , Ruben, Ruben , Three More Men, Another Baby , Bean - The Ultimate Disaster Film and Miss Undercover . He rarely took on orders for other, more dramatic films. In 1997/98 Peter Larkin designed the buildings for the television series Maximum Bob . After the comedy A Boss to Fall in Love with Sandra Bullock and Hugh Grant , the 76-year-old quit working for the cinema.
