Night and the City (alternative title: The Night of Soho , also: Angeschlagen ) is an American drama directed by Irwin Winkler from 1992 . The plot is based on a novel by Gerald Kersh . The film is a remake of the film Night and the City from the year 1950 .

Harry Fabian is a New York City attorney who is not considered particularly successful. He organizes a boxing match, which he hopes for big money. He borrows the money needed for the preparations from Helen Nasseros, the wife of the bar owner Phil Nasseros, with whom he is having an affair. When the print shop doesn't want to wait for payment for the posters, Fabian borrows the missing money from an underworld boss, who expressly warns him of the consequences of the non-repayment.
Shortly before the fight, Al Grossman, an old boxer who helps Fabian with the preparations, is provoked by another man. The veteran challenges the man to a boxing match, shortly afterwards he dies of a heart attack. Now Fabian is dealing with the captors of his brother Ira Grossman. He wants to hold Fabian responsible for the death of his brother.
Reviews
Roger Ebert criticized the portrayal of Robert De Niro in the Chicago Sun-Times of October 23, 1992 and wrote that the character he played should not appear like a "lover". He criticized the portrayals of Cliff Gorman and Jessica Lange as "too realistic", although the story told was not realistic. The film does not produce the same effect as the previous film. Ebert praised the portrayal of Alan King.
The lexicon of international films described the film as "unconvincing" and "boring".
