Peter Lawrie (born March 12, 1974 in Dublin , Ireland ) is an Irish professional golfer on the European Tour .

Lawrie was trained at University College Dublin on a golf scholarship. He won the Irish Amateur Closed Championship in 1996 and became a professional golfer in 1997. It took a few years to qualify for the European Tour, but a fourth place in the 2002 Challenge Tour season ranking eventually earned him eligibility to play. In his first year (2003), Lawrie received the Sir Henry Cotton Rookie of the Year Award for Best Newcomer . He was the first Irish golfer to receive this honor. After consistently good performances in the following seasons Lawrie succeeded in May 2008, the first tournament victory on the European Tour. He won the Open de España in the playoff against the Spaniard Ignacio Garrido .
