Peter Quendler

Peter Quendler (born March 22, 1936 in St. Andrä , Carinthia ; † November 5, 2011 in Klagenfurt ) was a Carinthian development worker who was best known for his long-term commitment to Caritas Austria .

Life

After completing primary and secondary school in St. Andrä, he graduated from the agricultural school in Thürn Castle and then trained in forestry in Ossiach . In 1956 he began his position in the ordinariate , where he worked for Bishop Joseph Köstner for 25 years . During the earthquake in Friuli (1976) he came into contact with Caritas and began to work as a volunteer.

In 1987 he moved from professorial position to a position at Caritas, where he oversaw a large number of projects in the Third World and in Eastern Europe. His area of ​​responsibility included work abroad, educational work, the recreation department and the development of the parish charity. Since 1992 he has been the coordinator of the Aktion Nachbar in Not campaign .

At the end of 1997, Peter Quendler retired, but he continued to be involved in foreign aid and the Caritas recovery department.

After retirement:

  • from 1999 he became involved in the Kosovo aid in Albania . He coordinated aid transports for refugees and set up a refugee camp for 1,000 refugees in Puke.
  • 1999–2000: Providing 6,000 refugees with food on their return to Albania and restoring 134 houses.
  • Establishment of a kindergarten and premises for the education of war-damaged children in Pristina .
