Peter Schönhoff (born February 12, 1938 in Breslau ) is a German artist and writer .

Life

Born in Breslau, Peter Schönhoff was evacuated to Prisselberg near Altenburg in 1945 and studied as a boarding school student in the Windischleuba school home from 1949 to 1956 . In Windischleuba he made his first attempts at writing; he drew, painted and received a vocal training. From 1956 to 1959 he was a seaman in the GDR naval forces and became a member of the SED . After studying German and art education from 1959 to 1964 at the Karl Marx University in Leipzig , he studied singing . From 1964 he then worked as an art teacher and German teacher in Ponitz and performed publicly with recitals . From 1968 to 1974 he was deputy head of the culture department at the council of the Glauchau district and then until 1977 head of the district culture cabinet in Glauchau.

Because of his protest against the expatriation of Wolf Biermann , he was remanded in custody in Karl-Marx-Stadt from May to December 1977 in the MfS prison on the Kaßberg and was expelled from the SED. From 1978 to 1979 he worked as a painter in a dairy . From 1986 he worked as a freelance painter and graphic artist.

After the political upheaval in the GDR , he became director of the museum and the art collection of Schloss Hinterglauchau in 1990 , before going back to freelance in 1994 . He was represented at exhibitions in Glauchau, Meerane , Dresden and Wiesbaden and published features , art reviews , novels and stories before his first novel was published in 2005. His topics are exclusively things that he has to negotiate with his fellow human beings. His cycle SchumannLebenLied , for example, is more about him than actually about Schumann.

He lives and works in an old farmhouse in the Niederschindmaas district of the Dennheritz community in the Zwickau district in Saxony .

Peter Schönhoff is married and has three sons.

Altenbourg exhibition

In his function as head of the district culture cabinet, Peter Schönhoff was involved in the great Glauchau exhibition by Gerhard Altenbourg in 1975 together with his superior Ernst Kreitlow, the painter Johannes Feige and the then museum director of Hinterglauchau Castle , Günter Ullmann . The exhibition was initially rejected by a higher party because Gerhard Altenbourg consistently refused to accept the official socialist cultural policy. The rejection of the exhibition was justified with so-called "messes", as one of the works was entitled When Fucking . Nevertheless, the exhibition was able to be enforced against all opposition.
