The Roman Catholic parish and pilgrimage church Dürnbach is related to the cemetery to the municipality from the market Neuhodis on the northern border of the village Dürnbach in Burgenland the community Schachendorf in the district of Oberwart in Burgenland . It is dedicated to the feast of the Assumption of Mary and belongs to the dean's office in Rechnitz in the Eisenstadt diocese . The church and the cemetery are under monument protection .

history

The parish was built in the Middle Ages (before 1428). In 1698 the seat of the parish was moved from Hodis to Dürnbach, the parsonage is located in the middle of Dürnbach. The original parish church, consecrated to Saints Peter and Paul , was demolished around 1780 and rebuilt from 1781 to 1783. The church was renovated inside in 1936 and outside in 1982.

Church building

There is a walled cemetery around the church. Chapels with stations of the cross are integrated into these. The church is a spacious hall church. The front south tower is crowned by an onion helmet. The retracted choir is closed flat and round.

The nave consists of three wide bays. There is a square vault between double straps resting on pilasters . The three-axis gallery has a bulging parapet and is vaulted under a square. It dates from 1783. The triumphal arch is continuously fluted. There is a square vault above the choir and a cup vault in the apse. The wall paintings were painted around 1900 in the Beuron style by the Benedictine Father Lukas from Seckau Abbey .

Furnishing

The classicistic high altar was built around 1790. The cranked cornice is supported by six columns. The cornice is vaulted in the middle and contains a picture “Assumption of Mary” by Stephan Dorfmeister from 1794. The wood carved figures were restored in 1958. St. Florian and St. Anthony can be seen to the side. Angels and putti are depicted above the entablature .

The left side altar was built around 1700. It consists of a flat wall with an acanthus frame . The altarpiece shows St. John Nepomuk . It is flanked by carved figures of Saints Leonhard and Donatus .

The pulpit is a simple carpenter's work from 1783. The four baroque seated figures of the four evangelists date from 1748. In the sacristy there is a parament cabinet with a confessional from around 1790.

The organ was built in 1789. The bell was cast by Andreas Haller in Szombathely in 1831 .
