The Roman Catholic parish church of Brandenberg is located in the municipality of Brandenberg in the district of Kufstein in the state of Tyrol . The church consecrated to St. George belongs to the deanery of Reith im Alpbachtal in the Archdiocese of Salzburg . The church building is a listed building .

history

In 1266 the church is mentioned as a branch of the parish church in Breitenbach am Inn . With this mention, pastoral care was transferred to the St. Andrä Abbey in Freising . In 1693 the church was elevated to the status of a curate church and in 1891 a parish church. The core and some of the construction details of the late Gothic church were rebuilt in a Baroque style by Georg and Oswald Zwerger from 1678 to 1680 . The church is surrounded by a cemetery.

architecture

On the north side of the church are two walled-in Gothic pointed arches, probably from two former portals. A late Gothic pointed arch portal has been preserved on the south side of the choir. The west portal from 1680 is flanked with pilasters and has a triangular gable. On the north side of the nave, due to the additions, there are high-lying, transversely oval windows. There are high oval windows in the south wall of the nave. The north tower on the polygonal choir is slightly adjusted. The tower has round-arched double windows divided by columns and a pointed gable helmet. To the east of the tower is the two-storey sacristy , to the west of the tower is a mortuary hall.

The interior of the four-bay nave is vaulted with a barrel with stitch caps . The walls are structured with pilasters with acantic capitals. Delicate ornamental stucco frames the windows and emphasizes the edges of the stitch caps. The baroque west gallery from the third quarter of the 18th century stands on Ionic columns and has a swinging parapet. The round triumphal arch connects the nave and the slightly retracted choir. The late Gothic arched portal to the tower ground floor in the choir has a chamfered wall. In the north there is a choir gallery. The ceiling paintings, in the choir the glory of Saints George , Stefan and Barbara , in the nave Heilig-Geist-Loch with angels and the beheading of St. Georg, come from Josef Arnold the Elder (1853).

Furnishing

The high altar is from 1788. The altarpiece by the painter Simon Zaglacher depicts the battle of St. George with the dragon. On the altar are the statues of Saints Peter and Paul and Vincent , the patron saint of the woodcutters. The left wall altar from 1700 has been changed several times, the crucifix comes from the 19th century, the figure of Maria Magdalena from the end of the 17th century. In the extract from 1788, St. Aloisius depicted. The tabernacle was built around 1670. The right side altar, a Marian altar, has a tabernacle from 1788, the statue of the Virgin dates from around 1700. The trinity is depicted in the extract from the altar .

The pulpit from 1680 shows the images of the carrying of the cross, the erection of the cross, the impotence of Mary , a Pietà and a carved group of the Holy Family from 1788. There are console figures of the Archangels Gabriel and Michael from the second half of the 17th century. The triumphal arch cross with Mary and John Evangelist is from the late 17th century.

One bell was cast by Christoph Löffler in 1570 , another by Bartholomäus Köttelath in 1651.
