The parish church Chorherrn stands in an elevated position at the south-eastern entrance to the village in the village of Chorherrn in the market town of Tulbing in the Tulln district in Lower Austria . The Roman Catholic parish church consecrated to St. Aegidius belongs to the deanery of Tulln in the diocese of St. Pölten . The church is a listed building ( list entry ).

history

In the 14th century a vicariate of Tulln and was documented as a parish in 1393. From 1622 the church was looked after by Freundorf .

The church with a north tower, essentially from the 13th century, has been changed and expanded several times. Destroyed in the 1st Turkish War in 1529 , the church was rebuilt in 1568. In 1783/1784 the sacristy was added. In 1683 damage occurred in the 2nd Turkish War . In 1796 the church was re-covered and the high altar repaired. In 1805 ( Third Coalition War ) and 1809 ( Fifth Coalition War ) war damage occurred again. In 1831 the choir was newly vaulted and in 1834 the nave was extended. In 1910 the church tower was shortened and re-covered.

architecture

The former fortified church is surrounded by a cemetery wall with supporting pillars .

The simple undivided nave with baroque Karniesbogen windows was in the 18th century to the north and to the west in 1834 to a respective yoke expanded in the nave south wall is a Gothic portal rest with stone jambs walled up. The low, drawn-in choir ends in a straight line, with the remains of a Romanesque arched window in the east wall . In the northern corner of the choir stands the shortened Gothic tower with pointed arched sound windows in stone walls and remnants of the tracery ; it wears a pyramid helmet from 1910.

Furnishing

The high altar in a late baroque double-column arch position with a neo-baroque attachment as a frame for the statue niche St. Aegidius around 1700 has a base with reliquary shrines and in front of it a tabernacle crowned with the figural group of the Lamb of God and Christ .

The organ was built by Franz Reusch in 1874.
